Robert “Bob” M. Sacco Sr., 91, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully, on Monday, June 28, 2021, after a period of declining health. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Joan M. (Berg) Sacco.
Bob was born in Boston, MA, on June 8, 1930, the only son of the late Frank P. and Barbara J. (Lydon) Sacco. He graduated from Boston English High School and subsequently attended Boston College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and his master’s degree in education. Bob was drafted by the United States Army and honorably served his Nation in the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. He married the love of his life, Joan M. Berg, on January 16, 1954, while still active duty in the Army, and shortly after they settled in Hudson, where they currently reside. He had a long and successful career as an engineer for several local Defense companies, before eventually retiring.
Bob was a longtime member of Saint Michael Parish and the former Christ the King Church, where he served as an eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as local Boy Scout Troop 77, where he volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joan M. (Berg) Sacco, he is also survived by 5 children, Heather Barbara Sacco of Manchester, England; Bob Sacco Jr. and his wife Patricia of Franklin, MA; Joanne Sacco and her husband Michael Ganger of Erie, PA; Stephen Sacco and his wife Sarah of Hudson, MA; and Robin Sacco Houtman and her husband Bart of Delft, Netherlands; a sister Charlotte Cardullo and her husband William of Richmond, VA; 10 grandchildren, Caitlin Sacco, Elizabeth Sacco, Allison Ganger, Lauren Ganger, Nathan Ganger, Shawn Robert Ganger, Benjamin Houtman, Emma Houtman, Luke Sacco, and Jack Sacco, and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his daughter Paula Ann Sacco and his son-in-law Jeffrey Johnston.
A period of calling hours will be held 4–7 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA, followed by Committal Services at Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson.
