Roger C. Keener, 63, of West Boylston, died Thursday, Aug. 21 at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, in Worcester. He was the beloved husband for 45 years to Rhoda E. (Van Laer) Keener of West Boylston.
He was born in Ashland, OH, son of the late Donald R. and Geraldine L. (Ross) Keener and resided in Ashland, OH attending local schools until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1961 at the age of 17. Mr. Keener was stationed at various posts all over the world throughout his Naval career and was a veteran of the Vietnam, Lebanon and Grenada wars. He retired from the Navy in 1986 and moved to West Boylston, MA residing there the past 22 years. Mr. Keener enjoyed working after his retirement from the Navy working for various companies localy, most recently he was employed as a shipping and receiving clerk for Photo-Vac CO. in Waltham from 2002 until retiring in 2007. He enjoyed wood crafting in his spare time and cherished the times he spent with his granddaughter.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Lynn Keener and wife Annmarie of Shirley, MA, Brian Keener and wife Sara of Hudson, MA and Ann Laughman of Worcester, MA. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Bonnie Keener and Della Fisher; his brother, Thomas Keener; his step-sisters, Paula Monroe and Connie Trask, all of Ashland, OH and his granddaughter Jasmine Sintha of Hudson. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Evelyn Keener.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749. A calling hour will be from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
