My Daddy, Ronald L. Wright, was reunited with his Lord and Savior and with the love of his life, my mother Helen L. (Scalia) Wright, on February 3, 2025, three weeks after his 88 th birthday. She had passed on to Glory on September 15, 2022, two weeks before her 79 th birthday, and he missed her every day, but he stayed here to spend a little over two years with us. As Daddy’s Girl, I thoroughly enjoyed the bonus time.
He was born to Ronald and Flora (Thornock) Wright in St. Ignatius, Montana, in 1937, the eldest of nine children. After graduating from High School in 1956, he joined the Navy and served honorably for four years. While in the Navy, he kept trying to get back to the west coast, but God knew that his destiny was in Waltham, Massachusetts, where he met my mother. Although he enjoyed being in the Navy, once they met, he couldn’t wait to get out. Their box full of handwritten love letters captures the emotion and strength of their unending love and complete devotion to each other that lasted through almost 63 years of marriage.
He was a hard worker at several occupations, providing for his family, not just financially but also in love and companionship. He ALWAYS had time for us and didn’t have a selfish bone in his body. He was like a father to his only grandson, Ray Oliver, and cherished his time with him. As a veteran, he enjoyed several activities that were provided by the Hudson Senior Center, and I will be forever grateful to Bill Smith for giving him rides to “Daddy Daycare” (aka Vet Talks) and other activities after Daddy stopped driving.
He is survived by his daughter Virginia (Wright) Oliver, his son-in-law Rich Oliver, and his grandson Ray Oliver (all of Hudson), one brother Robin Wright and his family of Texas, and one sister Joelyn Hansen and her family of Washington State. I would need to write a novel to truly convey the awesome man that he was and to describe the wonderful life that he lived. When I pass on to Glory, I know that he’ll be waiting there with a big hug for me, and we’ll both have a good cry of happy tears.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
