Roy E. Mathews Jr., 81, of Hudson, died on Friday, July 10th at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Jeanette M. (Brooks) Mathews who died in December of 2014.
Roy was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, son of the late Roy E. Mathews Sr. and Marguerite (Brown) Mathews. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps until being honorably discharged in 1956. He has resided in Hudson since 1960. Roy was a former Police Officer and Detective for the Town of Hudson in the 1970's and later was the Director of Security for the Digital Equipment Corp. in Stow. He retired as the Director of Security for the Showa Women's Institute in Boston. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending several years as a crossing guard for the Town of Sudbury.
Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and always looked forward to the many camping trips they shared. He looked forward to spending the summer months at Hampton Beach, NH and the many deep sea fishing trips he took with family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and loyal friend. He will be truly missed by all.
He is survived by his three children, Keith Mathews and his wife Barbara of Silver Ridge, ME, Mark Mathews and his wife Deanne of Patten, ME and Lisa Chicoine and her husband Jeff of Hudson. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary Lou Otto of Apopka, FL, Carol Kerkeron of Berkley, Roberta Koskoski of Brockton; his seven loving grandchildren; four adoring great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service and celebration of Roy's life will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the Tighe-AHamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, July 17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
