Ruth was born and raised in South Acton, MA, on November 19, 1934, to her late parents George and Christine Marie (Nelson) Penney. Ruth raised her family in Maynard, MA before moving to Marlborough, MA, for 14 years, and Hudson, MA, for the past 10 years until her passing.

Ruth worked briefly as a hairdresser and then Bradley Container Company in Maynard, MA , before transitioning to focusing on raising her family, and caring for their home. When her children had grown, Ruth worked as a secretary at Beacon Communications.

Ruth, affectionally known as "Nana Ruth", enjoyed baking and entertaining, but, more than anything, she loved being with her family – especially attending her children's' and  grandchildren's’ sporting events always sporting her favorite visor. She also enjoyed knitting, and, in her younger years, visiting Wells Beach in Maine and Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester.

Ruth was an avid Boston sports fan. In her golden years, she always looked forward to her daily Manhattan. Ruth will always be remembered for her unique and loving spirit, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
