Ruth E. (Wikstrom) Smith, 75, of Hudson, died on Friday, Aug. 29th at Marlboro Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Frank A. Smith of Hudson.
Ruth was born in Quincy, daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy (Somers) Wikstrom. She was raised in Pembroke where she attended local schools and has resided in Hudson the past 40 plus years. Ruth was employed as a Matron with the Hudson Police Dept. for many years and later worked for the Digital Equipment Corp. as a Security Officer in Northboro until her retirement.
Ruth always looked forward to spending time with her family and loved and cherished her cat "Toby". She enjoyed being outdoors, especially caring for her gardens when she was able. She will truly be missed by them all.
She is survived by her 5 children, Robin Messer of Hudson, Brenda Plant of Florida, David Gill and his wife Samira of Hudson, Jonathan Gill of Marlboro and Jeffrey Gill and his wife Christine of Berlin. She is also survived by her 11 loving grandchildren; her brother, Charles Wikstrom and his wife Sandra of Florida and her 4 step-children, Robert Smith of Pembroke, Richard Smith of Hudson, Frank Smith Jr. of Rutland and Jason Smith of Maynard. She was the sister of the late Barbara Sutherland and Robert Wikstrom.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13th from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. A funeral service and celebration of Ruth's life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial services will be held privately at a later date.
