Shane Douglas Moore, 54, of Worcester, formerly of Sudbury, died peacefully on December 3rd, surrounded by family and loved ones after a courageous battle with ALS, (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
To all who knew him, Shane was nothing short of a Superhero. He was strong, loyal and mischievous, with a heart full of love and kindness.
Born in Marlborough on May 20, 1970 he is the son of the late Linda M. Gogolin (Lugin) of Hudson, and Earle D. Moore of Hopkinton.
Shane was an adventurous youth. As a strong swimmer he loved canoeing and kayaking. He would be the first to jump in to help a capsized boat. Later, while in his teen years he became a disciplined athlete in kickboxing and body-building. It was this love of kickboxing and working-out that drew him into MMA (mixed martial arts) fighting and training. His first professional match pulled an energetic crowd, attended also by many family and friends.
His incredible determination and persistence wasn’t just in the ring; he brought that passion to every aspect of his life. Helping others to be their best. Known for his playful spirit and boisterous laugh, he had a knack for bringing laughter and joy to those around him. He always lightened the mood even in the toughest of times. He dreamed of one day living in the peaceful woods of New Hampshire, surrounded by nature, his dogs and family.
Shane had a brilliant mind and memory for history and facts. Always a profound thinker, he found faith in his later years. It was his faith that carried him when he took ill. With grace and resilience as his superpower, he lived life, as always, on his own terms, with a new strength and peace. The recent diagnosis of ALS left him with big decisions and little time. His clarity of mind chose how he would spend his remaining time. He did not want any assistive equipment or advanced care, and his mind was at peace even as his heart would have chosen life. He faced these challenges at home with his wife, Mecia and youngest son, Adin, until his final day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mecia Bairos Moore, formerly of Hudson; two sons, Ryan and Adin Moore of Worcester; two sisters, Nicole Palmer and Michelle Poor of Concord; half-brother Randy Christmas of Jaffrey, NH; half-sister Megan Tanner of Lebanon, PA; his father Earle Moore of Manchester, NH; his loving parent in-laws, Joe and Zenalia Bairos; sisters-in-law Lisete Bairos, of Marlboro, and Paula Eggert of Alabama; and Shane’s best friend Bob Orchard of Marlboro.
Shane is predeceased by his mother, Linda, and his step-father Larry Gogolin; brothers in-law Helder Bairos and Alex Palmer; half brother Darren Hamilton, and Shane’s beloved dogs, Chico, Harley, Diesel & Sydney.
