Shirley L. Bausch

January 27, 1933 — August 30, 2024

Hudson, MA

Shirley L. (Mills) Bausch, 91, of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024 in the comfort of her home. Shirley was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 70 years, Robert A. Bausch who died in September 2021. She often shared her memories of a handsome young boy who rode his bike by her house incessantly, hoping to catch her eye. He certainly did.

Shirley was born on January 27, 1933 to the late Henry B. and Lillian C. Mills in Jamaica Plain where she was raised. She graduated in 1950 from Jamaica Plain High School and then went on to work at John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston.

After marrying on October 22, 1950, Shirley and Bob resided in Jamaica Plain with their 3 children before moving to Hudson in 1963 where they lived the rest of their lives.

Shirley leaves her two daughters; Janis Bausch of Hudson who not only resided with her but was also her caretaker during her declining health, and Karen Calnan and her husband, George, of Hudson. She leaves three grandchildren; Stacey Davis and her husband Matt, Adam Conley and his wife Ashley, and Kristen Luz and her husband Hernani. She leaves 9 great grandchildren; Alyssa, Jillian, and Brynlee Davis, Cameron, Brody, Owen, and Beckett Conley, and Coby and Jordan Luz. Shirley is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was predeceased by the tragic death of her son, Robert W. Bausch. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Broberg and Roberta Martello.

Shirley worked over 20 years for Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, MA, first starting on the mother's hours shift and then to full time Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Personnel.

When Shirley wasn't at work or a family event, you could find her at St. Luke's Episcopal Church downtown Hudson volunteering hours of her time serving the congregation and the Lord. On Sunday mornings, you could see her singing in the choir, reading the lessons, assisting in communion and hosting the coffee hour after the 10:00 service. She also served on the Vestry, the Altar Guild, and the Music and Worship Committee. She often chaired the Church Fair and was a Lay Minister to the sick.

Shirley had a smile for everyone and was always so welcoming. She loved and was so proud of her family. She loved attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events, whether they be sporting or cultural. She and Bob had owned a second home on Cape Cod for many years which brought her great joy. Shirley will be sorely missed.

Funeral services under the direction of Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the following charities:
