Shirley Marie Comey Satas, 82, a life long resident of Hudson, passed away in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011 at River Terrace Health Care in Lancaster, MA. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Wallace Satas, in 2007, and by her son, Daniel Satas, in 2009. She is survived by her son, John Satas and his wife Cindy of Troy, NH, her daughter, Judith Satas LaCroix of Hubbardston, MA, her sister, Sandra Tessier of Rhode Island, and her brother Walter Comey of Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nancy Satas Oteri of Clinton, MA, Jessica Luoma and her husband Christopher of Gardner, MA, Jason LaCroix of Pittsburgh, PA, Amy Morrison and her husband Colby of Campton, NH, Alyssa Satas of Plymouth, NH, and Alden Satas of the US Army, stationed at Fort Drum, NY. Shirley is also survived by her great grandchildren, Michaela, Gabriel and Angel Oteri of Clinton, MA and Mason Morrison of Campton, NH. Shirley also has several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Shirley was a very gentle, loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She had many hobbies and interests. She was a dedicated member of her church, St. Luke's Episcopal Church,of Hudson MA where she served in many capacities such as Sunday School teacher, Altar Guild, the fair committees, and church suppers. She also was a member of the Hudson Historical Society and volunteered her time and energy to many community activities. Shirley was a very talented seamstress and had a passion for flowers and gardening. Her home in Hudson was surrounded by her beautiful gardens.
Shirley was the daughter of the late Florence Flint Comey and Harvey Dyer Comey who lived at and managed a farm on Priest St in Hudson.
Shirley retired from Digital Equipment Corp. in Maynard, MA. In her retirement years she traveled to Europe, Canada, and to many US destinations with her husband, Wally.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 7th at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Luke's Church, 5 Washington Street, (Wood Square), Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
