Steven B. Johnson

Steven Benjamin Johnson of Longmont, CO died on November 18, 2023 after a two-year battle with metastatic melanoma. He was 47 years old. 

Steven graduated from Ipswich High School in 1994 and Indiana University in 1998 where he was photo editor of the Indiana Daily Student. Photography continued to be an active hobby for Steven until his death. At IU Steven took up crew and rowed with his team at the Head of the Charles and  ranked as an Olympic rower in the 2000 Summer Olympics. For several years he coached the Northwestern University women's crew team. Steven also worked as a personal trainer at Equinox Health Club in Chicago where he inspired his clients to reach their fitness potential. Steven became a marathon runner and competed in the Chicago, New York and Boston races.  Always looking for challenge, Steven took up triathlon and was a world class competitor for over 12 years, placing third in his age group at the Ironman World Championship in 2011 and fifth in 2012.  Using his skills and success as a triathlete, Steven launched Darkhorse Triathlon and went on to coach triathletes from all over the United States.

Although he was lifelong Red Sox fan, Steven loved living in Colorado where he could run, bike and hike in the Rockies and explore the West with his family.

Steven was a loving and deeply involved father to his sons, Beckett 12 and Jackson 8 and will be greatly missed by them as well as his friends, colleagues and loved ones near and far. He is survived by his parents Stephanie K. Johnson and Jaret Johnson, his sister Sara Mannone (Greg), nephew Nicholas, all of Durham, North Carolina, his former wife Traci, and several Massachusetts cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at The First Church, Ipswich on April 6th at 1:00.
