Virginia A. (Underwood) Fernandes

Virginia A. (Underwood) Fernandes, 80, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully, on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Marlborough Hospital. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 17 years, Abel Fernandes, who predeceased her on November 21, 2009.

Virginia was born in Marlborough, MA, on July 21, 1941, a daughter of the late Kenneth E. and Jeannette (Chagnon) Underwood. She was raised in Marlborough and attended St. Anne Academy, where she graduated High School. Virginia went on to attend Boston College and St. Thomas Aquinas College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She subsequently pursued a vocation serving as a nun with the Sisters of Providence in Holyoke, MA, devoting 16 years of faithful service before pursuing a life of faith outside the convent.  She worked as an Administrative Assistant for over 16 years at Dennison Manufacturing Company in Framingham, MA.

Virginia married her beloved husband Abel Fernandes in 1992 and shared 17 years of marriage together until he passed away in 2009. Throughout her life she was a devout catholic and a long time parishioner of St. Michael Parish in Hudson.

Virginia is survived by her 3 siblings, Paul K. Underwood and his wife Margaret of Westborough, MA, Susan Whitten and her husband Joseph Buczek of Taunton, MA and Dorothy Gardner and her husband Robert of Lunenburg, MA. She also leaves behind nieces and several nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 4-6pm on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St. Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Friday, November 5, 2021 at St. Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Rural Cemetery in Southborough for Committal Services.
