Walter Aden Allen, 94, of Hudson, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9th surrounded by his loving family at the Medway Country Manor in Medway. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia M. (Merlini) Allen, in 2003. They were married 55 years.
Wally was born in Springfield, son of the late Howard R. and Lena A. (Brown) Allen. He was a lifelong resident of Hudson where he attended local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Hudson High School. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the U. S. Navy and saw action during the initial invasion of Normandy on D-Day. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Wally was employed for 33 years as a draftsman and later project engineer by LaPointe Machine and Tool Company in Hudson.
Wally enjoyed collecting coins and was a member of "Early American Coppers". He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours trout fishing with family and relatives on Hogs Brook in Hudson. His real passion was horse racing and attended many races with his family, relatives and friends over the years. He cherished the times he shared with his family, especially with his grandchildren and later his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his three children, Christine M. Warren and her husband William of Medway, Walter H. Allen and his wife Melinda of Scottsdale, AZ and Michael J. Allen and his partner Ken Bositis of Holden. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Courtney DeLuca and her husband Frank of Medway, Darien Stratton and her husband Harrison of Scottsdale, AZ, Jackson Allen of Scottsdale, AZ; his three great grandchildren, Annabella, Frankie and Stone DeLuca along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service and celebration of Wally's life will be held on Monday, Sept. 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Sunday, Sept. 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
