Walter J. Crane, 80, of Hudson, MA died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA.
He was the husband of Jacqueline R. (Miner) Crane of Hudson for 49 years.
Born in Lexington, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Edith (Bangs) Crane.
He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army.
He worked for many years as a Union Mason throughout the state until his retirement.
He was an honorary life member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks serving on the Bingo Committee and was also active on many other committees during his membership. He was honored as the Elk of the Year in 1984-1985. Mr. Crane also spent 24 years as Santa Claus during the Elks holiday gatherings. He was a member of the Wayland Country Club in Wayland and acted as the Dean of the Fairways at the club.
Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Alison Padula and her husband Christopher of Thompson, CT; his 3 sisters, Eleanor Crane Smith of Arizona, Norma Abbott of Florida, Lorraine Arena of Waltham, MA and sister in law Charlotte Crane of Virginia. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Danielle, Sydney, Mackenzie, Harrison, Olivia and Jackson Padula and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Audrey Bennett, Alfred, Edward, Donald, Raymond and Robert Crane.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michaels Church, 21 Manning Street Hudson, MA. The committal service with military honors will take place in the Bourne VA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, Nov. 9, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. (www.tighehamilton.com) 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. The Hudson Elks will conduct their ritual at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
