Walter H. Mosher Sr., 90, of Hudson, died Thursday, Aug. 28 at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, in Worcester. He was the beloved husband for 66 years to Rita O. (Brindley) Mosher of Hudson.
He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, son of the late William H. and Mary (Shiers) Mosher. He has been a resident of Hudson since the age of 6, attending local schools until he joined the U.S Army Air Corps. He was a veteran of WWII serving on a rescue plane that tended to downed pilots. Mr. Mosher was employed at Durand Chevrolet in Hudson for 15 years before retiring in 1998 and as a young adult he took up the carpentry trade with his father and brother. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid Red Sox fan and loved tending to his yearly vegetable garden, sharing the bounty with family and friends. He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Hudson.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Evelyn Lilley and husband Gordon of Jefferson, NH, Kenneth Dow and wife Ginny of Acton and Lorna Patriarca and husband Larry of Webster. He is also survived by his brother, Ernest Mosher of Hudson; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Walter Mosher in 1967 and was brother to the late Charles Mosher, Evelyn Allsobrooks and Muriel Paresi.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central St. Hudson, MA 01749, celebrated by Pastor Doug Robinson-Johnson of the First United Methodist Church in Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m in the funeral home.
