William Howard Buchanan, 76, of Shrewsbury, died on Saturday, Feb. 26th at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus in Worcester. He is survived by his wife, Marie-Louise (Gauthier) Buchanan of Shrewsbury.
William was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, son of the late George W. and Bertha May (Sparrow) Buchanan. He was a 1953 graduate of the Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Glacier A.G.B.-4 Icebreaker. He spent six years stationed in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans participating in Operation Deep Freeze, Task Force 41. He eventually served as a Navy photographer at the Portsmouth Naval Yard until being honorably discharged. Most recently he was employed as a security guard for Securitas of Westborough the past six years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Steven Buchanan and his wife Cindy of Belmont; his daughter, Denise Cecile Aucoin and her husband Brian of Hudson and his five grandchildren, Eric, Danielle and Adam Aucoin and Shawn and Kristen Buchanan..
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Natick will be held at the convenience of the family.
