William C. Lyons, 87, of Marlborough and formerly of Hudson and West Roxbury, died with family by his side on Friday, September 8, 2023.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Margaret (Peggy) Lyons. He is survived by his children: William F. Lyons of Hubbardston, Laura Olivo of Hudson, Michael Lyons of Franklin, and Julie Hodgdon of Marlborough; grandchildren Christopher Olivo, Anthony Olivo, Kelly Olivo, Samantha Maurice, and Richard Maurice, as well as five great-grandchildren; and his siblings Maureen Donegan of Beverly, Agnes Scoff of Orleans, and Deborah Davies of Falmouth. He was the brother of the late Janie Lyons.
Bill was born in Boston to the late William Lyons and Agnes (Walsh) Lyons. He lived in Marlborough for 54 years. In 2017 he moved to Hudson, where he resided the last 6 years, moving back to Marlborough just a few weeks ago.
Bill graduated from Boston Trade High School and attended Wentworth Institute before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. In October of 1956 Bill transferred from the Marines to the U.S. Army, serving until he was honorably discharged in March of 1961. Upon discharge from the Army, Bill was employed by Honeywell while he attended night school at Northeastern University. He then went on to work for Northrop Corporation for the next 30 years as a Quality Control Engineer. In retirement Bill remained active, volunteering for a local senior center and working part time at Bunker Storage.
Bill was a true family man, and a person whom family and friends relied on as a source of strength, love, laughter, and wisdom. He was also a talented musician, playing both the accordion and piano. He had a love for knowledge and was always reading. In recent years he enjoyed bowling with his friends from Quail Run. But what he enjoyed most was his time spent with Peggy, especially traveling to warm destinations and their trips to Foxwoods.
