William “Bill” H. Tervo, Jr., 83 of Berlin, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Rowena “Trudy” G. (Bousquet) Tervo.
Bill, “Bumpa”, or “Bub”, as he was affectionately known by his family was born in Marlborough and raised in Hudson the son of the late William and Clara Hellen (Stone) Tervo. He graduated in the Hudson High School class of 1954, where he was a stand out athlete in Football, Hockey and baseball and was later inducted into the Hudson High Hall of fame. After high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country from1954 until 1957 during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married his lifelong love Trudy and shortly thereafter they moved to Berlin, where they raised their family on a small working farm.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to go hunting and fishing with his cousins, and while at home he enjoyed working in his gardens and raising his livestock on the farm. He was a great family man and he was a proud coach for the Berlin Lions little league baseball team and the Berlin Tomahawks pop warner football team. He was also a longtime member of the Berlin American Legion Post 62. Bill and family loved to travel to Martha’s Vineyard, where he visited annually since his childhood.
In addition to his wife Trudy, Bill is also survived by his 4 children, William Henry Tervo, III and his wife Michaela of Leominster, Michele A. “Miki” Patterson of Berlin, Sharon Lee Mulligan of Boylston, Erin Gail Mojkowski of Berlin; grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, Peter & Becky Tervo, Rebecca, Shawn & April Patterson, Natasha, Katrina Mojkowski, Lydia & Barry Patterson and James Mulligan, Jr.; a great-grandchild Liam Tervo; 3 sisters, Beverly and Joseph Andre of Harwich, MA, Eleanor Baldero and her husband Bruce of Rutland MA and Linda Prindle and her husband Fred of Marlboro; two foster children, Kathy and Debra Olgivie of CT; his cousin/best friend/fishing buddy, Sylvia Wheeler, his cousin and hunting buddy, Dick Tervo and many more cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, January 19, 2018, at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson, MA. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 20, 2018, in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
